Exploring

This is a collection of photos taken all over the place. There’s bits of Derbyshire, London, Manchester, Sheffield, Copenhagen, and other miscellaneous stops on my travels. Enjoy!

Bands & Gigs

Ok, so I lied a little bit in my last post. I’ve found a plugin that’ll pull all my photos from Flickr that have a specific tag, meaning I can create a post on here and it’ll always be up to date with the content on Flickr, saving me a load of time and effort! Here’s my latest collection of photos I’ve taken of bands or at gigs:

Linacre

So yet again I’ve been neglecting this site, but I’ve kinda got a reason this time. I’ve been extremely busy since the last post sorting out things for Uni and I’ve also been sent to work in Copenhagen for a while! This is my 4th week here, and it’s been an amazing experience. The city is beautiful, the people are pleasant, polite, and friendly, and I’m really lucky to have had the opportunity to come over here and experience a bit of continental culture! Unfortunately I’ve not really had much time to take photos out here yet, but I’m planning on making a big effort with it this week.

I’ve taken quite a few photos in this hiatus, most of which are now on my Flickr account (flickr.com/mdneedham). I think going forward I’m going to be pretty much exclusively using it for getting my photos on the internet, so if you have any interest in seeing them I suggest checking it out! Before I commit to the switch though, I’ll upload a few batches of photos here – starting with these that I took at a reservoir near my home, Linacre.

Manc

I was in Manchester last weekend for a gig a promotions company I work closely with, Who Cares?! Music, was putting on at a venue called The Roadhouse. It’s a cool little place – really small, intimate and underground, and great atmosphere for a gig.

Before the gig and in between several pints, I took a few snaps in the area around the venue. Nothing special, but here they are.

LDN

I was in London this past weekend attending an open day for London Met university, and managed to get some time to take a few pics around the city. Typically, it decided to piss it down for pretty much the whole time I was out, but I still managed to grab a few shots that I’m happy with – especially when the rain stopped towards the end of the day!

I’m going to be moving to the Big Smoke later this year (I accepted my uni offer), so hopefully I’ll have plenty more opportunities to explore and capture the city come this September!

Everything looks good at 2,800 fps.

This video is so cool. I have no idea what I’d shoot if I had one of these, but I know I’d have the time of my life doing it!

Locked in a Vegas Hotel Room with a Phantom Flex from Tom Guilmette on Vimeo.

For the geeks, the camera used to make this is a Phantom Flex, and shoots 1080p video at an amazing 2,800fps. Holy cow.

Beautiful Sheffield

Me and a friend of mine (and fellow photographer) from work, Tarquin Clark, had a walk round Sheffield a few days ago with the aim of photographing the more derelict and run down areas of the city. We ended up with a nice collection of photos showing a different view of an amazing city that most visitors might never see. Take a look at my snaps below, and make sure to check Tarq’s out on flickr too!

Night as Day

I’m a frequent reader of the gadget blog, gizmodo.com, and every week they post a photography challenge. This week the challenge is to take a long-exposure photograph at night but make it look like it was taken in the daytime. Despite not currently having a tripod, I thought I’d give it a try (and a couple of other photographers at work were having a bash at it too, so I obviously had to compete). I ended up being very limited as to where I could shoot thanks to the whole no tripod situation, but I think I managed to get a few ok shots.

Plug-ing Hell

As I’ve banged on about loads on here already, I take photos for a local band called Ruberlaris. Recently, they played at The Plug in Sheffield to celebrate the release of their new EP, Tough Love. Here’s a few pics from the event.

Also, I encountered the first case of suffering for my art here, as like a complete tool I had my lovely 50mm lens sat loosely in my hoody pocket whilst taking these. Which was fine when I was just stood taking pictures, but not so great when I started jumping around on the barrier and running around looking for better shots. It rolled straight out and smashed into bits on the cold, hard, unforgiving dancefloor (and I didn’t even notice for ages!). Proper gutted.

Christmas Blowout

Over the festive period, me and my housemate decided to host the ‘Christmas Blowout’ party for our friends… needless to say, it was a very messy and enjoyable night, and a good time was had by all.

As has now become customary, my camera had to come out to say hello to everybody! I decided to slap my always handy fish-eye adapter on the end of my lens and unleash it upon everybody! The following is just a small selection of photos from the night (nearly 350 were taken and good enough to keep!) – mostly taken by me, but other people were having photo frenzies too. If you’re interested, and are friends with me on facebook, you can see the rest here.

I also shot 2 rolls of film with my new Diana F+ camera, but they’re still being developed (damn awkward film, needed to be sent away as nowhere in town had the right chemicals to develop it). I’ll make a post with them (if they’re good enough!) when I get them back.
